Complete re-roof of an operational club house

This project comprised the complete re-roofing of the golf club’s club house. The original peg tiles had crumbled over time so were removed and replaced with new clay tiles. Vintage Val De Seine tiles were used to match the existing building, while new breathable felt was installed underneath.

Detailed work included mitred bonnet hip cuts, tile hanging around the dormer windows and intricate lead work with chimneys and flashings. Bat access tiles were also included on the roof as per the Ecologist’s report with temporary bat boxes placed around the course while the works were ongoing.

A hot work permit procedure was followed to prevent fires, ensuring lead welding cooled down efficiently.

Client-first Planning

The golf course remained open throughout the works. Daily meetings were held with the venue’s management team to understand when competitions were being played. Work was planned accordingly to minimise disruption, working in sections. Sensitive logistics also allowed materials to be delivered in a ‘just in time’ basis, scheduled to avoid peak periods and limit site storage.

The roof was finished a month before the scheduled completion date, much to the delight of the client.
